Dell announced few software enhancements for new backup appliances and PowerVault storage portfolios at the Dell Storage Forum in Paris.
Storage has become a very important aspect in terms of company’s effort in the transition from PC era to the cloud market. The company is facing stiff completion from other firms like IBM, HP, and Cisco and not only from EMC, which rules the storage market. It has got competitors like NetApp that have partnered with Cisco for improving data center positioning.
The company claims that the new software will double the overall performance of the SC8000 controller that targets midsize to large enterprises and also cloud computing.
Boost in the sales includes the support for 16 GB Fiber channel connectivity from the server to the storage, which doubles bandwidth and accelerates the access to the data and business app. Brocade – the network fabric player announced that they are working with Dell to increase the throughput. The company also offers I/O modules, which takes advantage of the fresh capabilities.
Storage Center 6.3 adds the support for Windows Server 2012. The new offering integrates the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol.
Bob Fine- Compellent product director said that software advances the company’s Fluid Data architecture and keeps the data optimization for evolving the standards without purchasing the new storage system. In the present Compellent world, you refer the software as perpetual.
Dell is maintaining this strategy and it also enables the business to decrease the ownership cost. The company points to the IDC report that was published in October, commissioned by Dell. Storage Center 6.3 will be available in 2nd quarter of 2013. New version will be free for the present Compellent customers.
Considering the other announcements, the company has upgraded the software for the power vault MD3 arrays. Other enhancements include dynamic disk pools, which can share the data across the drives to mitigate the drive failure effects and also to accelerate the recovery times. New software update is rounded by thin-provisioning capabilities that intend to improve the capacity utilization.
Targeting the large enterprises, the company has introduced PowerVault DL2300 that bundles the recovery software and CommVault Simpana backup. It has unveiled the Quest NetVault Backup software, which again includes file recovering ability.
PowerVault DL3200 and PowerVault MD3 software enhancements are available now. The company has announced the 100,000th EqualLogic array recently and they are expecting to maintain the newly gained momentum.
